The Houston Press has described the business district of Westchase to be delightfully suburban in atmosphere and style, with a conveniently located number of chain stores located along the neighborhood’s most popular roads. Around 29,000 residents call Westchase home. As a special district found in the western portion of Houston, Texas, it has over 1,500 businesses located in the neighborhood. These businesses are associated with the petroleum industry and include ABB Group, BMC Software, Chevron, Phillips 66, and other major businesses that also employ a large portion of Westchase residents. Westchase enjoys a diverse population of many ethnicities, household incomes, and educational backgrounds. Location

Consisting of around 4.32 square miles, Westchase is found in the western portion of Houston, Texas and is a part of Harris County. Westheimer Road borders Westchase to the north, Gessner Road makes up the eastern border, and Houston Center Boulevard lies to the west. The Westpark Tollway makes up Westchase’s southern perimeter. Beltway 8, also known as Sam Houston Tollway, bisects the neighborhood north to south. As a neighborhood, Westchase is adjacent to Greater Sharpstown and Chinatown. Westchase also is northeast of Alief, southeast of Braeburn, west of Mid-West, and immediately south of Briarforest.

Commute

Commutes throughout the west, northwest, and southwest areas of Houston, TX are made fast and easy by residents of Westchase having ready access to Westpark Tollway and Sam Houston Tollway. The first of the two major roadways makes up the southern border of Westchase, while the latter, Sam Houston Tollway, runs vertically through the center of Westchase. At a 10-15 minute drive to the east connects to Interstate 610, which makes a wide circle around Houston’s central districts. The same distance to the west connects to Grand Parkway, which travels along Houston’s northwest areas. Additionally, Downtown Houston is only a 20 minute drive away.

Culture

Residents of Westchase are diverse in lifestyle, ages, and income statuses. 75% of the population are between 18 and 64 years of age, with 10% being 5-17 years old, 8% under 5 years, and 7% being 65 and over. As for ethnic background, the majority of residents at 33% are black, 26% are Hispanic, 25% are white, 13% are Asian, and 2% are classified as other races or biracial. As for income, 33% earn $25K-$50K, with 29% earning under $25K. Additionally, 24% earn $50K-$100K, and 15% earn over $100K. Many residents are college educated at 69%.

Both Alief Independent School District and Houston Independent School District enjoy prestigious reputations and have won awards for outstanding student achievements. Alief ISD has been named a Top Workplace for 2016-2019 consecutively. Houston ISD has earned awards for computer education, teacher excellence, and special education. The campuses in and around the Westchase area are within an easy daily commute distance and are dedicated to serving the west portion of Houston’s younger residents.
