Course Description: When a transaction involves a foreign seller, all parties need to be aware of the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act, otherwise known as FIRPTA. The course will explain the basics of the statute and its application to sales of real property by foreign sellers. The course will include a discussion on the withholding amounts, common withholding exceptions, contractual provisions relating to FIRPTA and title company procedures for handling any FIRPTA withholding.
